REALIZATION OF THE ΣT-ADC ALGORITHM WITH ANALOG EDGE EFFECTS ERROR COMPENSATION

Abstract

Background. Nowadays the greatest conversion function linearity and output code length are featured at information converters with sigma - architecture. How ever, the presence of digital filter-decimator in their structure doesn't allow binding of measurement results with the time of measurement. The article considers an algorithm of integrating ΣТ-ADC in which the intermediate pulse-width modulated signal is summarized in the adjoining conversion cycles during the time exceeding many times the period of pulse modulation in order to eliminate digital filtering of the modulator’s output signal. The research was carried out using a developed simulation model, in which an analog method of edge effect error compensation was applied. This technique makes it possible to add results of the intermediate specific cycles of conversion without sampling error accumulation, which in turn allows to exclude filtering.
Materials and methods. The simulation model was created in the Matlab/Simulink software environment. A series of model experiments were carried out and the values of standard deviation of the linearity of ADC conversion function were calculated without compensation and with analog compensation respectively. The article assesses the algorithm’s operability and describes features of its implementation in the software environment.
Results. The indices of standard deviation of the linearity confirm the efficiency of the simulation model ΣТ-ADC with analog edge effects error compensation and the correctness of the algorithm’s implementation in the software environment. The developed model reduces edge effects error more than three times. Conclusions. The realized simulation model ΣТ-ADC with analog compensation considerably reduces edge effects error that is confirmed by the received values of standard deviation of the linearity.
